Is your hair fine, thick, dry, greasy, curly, damaged, wavy or straight?
Your haircare needs depend on the type of hair you have, as well as the challenges you experience with your hair and scalp. So if your hair is curly, it will need extra added moisture, while a fine hair with a tendency to become greasy can find its natural balance with the right combination of moisturising and degreasing ingredients.
Which shampoo and conditioner should you choose to achieve the best care for your hair? Read below and learn more about our products and what benefits they provide for different hair types.
Why Should You Go Silicone-Free?
Switching to a natural and nourishing haircare routine without harmful or drying ingredients is the first step to achieving healthy and beautiful hair. This also means no to silicone.
Using shampoo and conditioner with silicone can cause damage to your hair, as the silicone lets oxygen into the hair follicles which can leave the hair with long-term damaging effects.
No silicone settles on your hair when you use ZENZ Organic Products. Instead, the hair strands are protected with an invisible layer of organic plant oils from nourishing avocado and aloe vera which will repair the hair over time. When you make the switch to a natural hair care routine, you may initially notice that your hair gets greasy faster than normal, but it stabilises quickly.
1. Shampoo for Thick or Dense Hair
A thick and dense hair is often stronger than other hair types, but it can also look heavy. Therefore, it is important to keep the hair healthy and use a shampoo that adds extra shine and suppleness to your hair instead of drawing it down.
Thick hair tends to get flat and greasy, and Shampoo Menthol no. 10 can help with both. It contains antiseptic and nourishing ingredients that help maintain a healthy moisture balance. It also stimulates the scalp and hair follicles and lifts the hair at the roots for a more vital look.
Is your thick hair in need of a moisture boost, Shampoo Cactus is no. 17 a good choice. The shampoo adds extra vitamins and minerals from prickly pear cactus, strengthens, helps with the natural balance of the scalp and leaves the hair healthy and revitalised. You should always finish your hair wash with conditioner, as it helps to ensure the optimal care for your hair. If necessary, use a bit of Conditioner Cactus no. 18 as leave-in conditioner for extra moisture.
Although your thick hair may withstand more, it is still important to take care of the hair with a nourishing treatment - preferably once a month. Hair treatments will help maintain a healthy moisture balance and strengthen the hair strands, so the hair retains its shine and suppleness. Treatment Pure no. 03 can be used on its own or mixed with an oil treatment of your choice for an extra moisture boost.
2. Natural Hair Care for Fine or Thin hair
Many women in Scandinavia have a thinner hair type. Fine hair can be easy to style, but it also tends to get flat. For fine hair, use a shampoo and conditioner that adds texture and volume to the hair. We recommend the Sweet Sense series, which is volumising and nourishing with a sweet scent of mandarin.
If you have thin hair with a tendency to get greasy, we recommend the Menthol series, which helps to stimulate the hair follicles, has a degreasing effect and gives a lift to the hair. You can mix the Sweet Sense and Menthol series for a volumising and degreasing effect.
After washing with shampoo and conditioner, use Volume Powder no. 89 and Salt Water Spray no. 15 for styling to provide volume and texture in fine hair.
3. The Best Hair Care for Straight Hair
If you have straight hair, we recommend a nourishing shampoo that gently cleanses the hair and scalp. Finish with a conditioner to avoid electric hair and be sure to dry your hair by the roots so the scalp is not left moist.
We recommend shampoos and conditioners from the Sweet Sense and Menthol series for straight hair, as both series provides a subtle lift to the straight hair that often needs volume. If your hair tends to get oily, choose Shampoo and Conditioner Menthol with a degreasing effect.
Comb your hair with the ZENZ Organic boar bristle brush to achieve shine, and choose a styling product such as Volume Powder Pure no. 89 that creates volume and texture in a straight hair of all lengths.
You can use a heat styling iron to give structure and life to a very straight hair. Turn the styling iron vertically and twist slightly in your wrist to give curl and structure to the hair.
A monthly hair treatment will help keep a straight hair healthy and shiny.
4. Which Shampoo Should You Choose for Curly or Wavy hair?
Curly hair requires extra expertise. As beautiful as curls can be, they can also become frizzy when they are not provided with the proper care.
Curly hair is naturally more dry, so choose a shampoo specifically made to add moisture and keep the curls healthy. We recommend our Cactus, Rhassoul or Deep Wood series, as they all ensure plenty of moisture for your curly or wavy hair.
The nourishing hair care series Cactus is suitable for curly hair with a heavy look. Shampoo Cactus no. 17 softens the hair without weighing it down, and in combination with Conditioner Cactus no. 18 it provides the hair with extra vitamins and minerals from prickly pear cactus.
Shampoo Rhassoul no. 16 is a mineral-rich clay shampoo with conditioner effect. The volcanic rhassoul clay enriches the hair with proteins, vitamins and minerals that provide extra care for dry hair with a wavy or curly structure.
For particularly dull and dry structured hair, choose Shampoo Deep Wood no. 07. It gives intense moisture and helps to restore the natural balance of the scalp. Finish with Conditioner Deep Wood no. 08, which will soften the hair and make it easier to style.
After washing your hair with shampoo and conditioner and drying it with a towel, add a bit of your conditioner as leave-in care before using styling products.
For a thick and curly hair, we recommend using Treatment no. 03 as a curl cream. You can also use Healing Sense Oil no. 98, which revitalises your curls and can be added to your haircare products as well as for styling.
5. How To Get Rid of Oily Hair with the Right Hair Care
Greasy or oily hair is often seen with hormonal imbalances, but it also occurs with imbalances in the scalp, which can occur when you use the wrong haircare products. Then the scalp gets irritated or dry and tries to restore its natural balance by producing more sebum and oil, creating a visibly oily hair.
In case of an imbalance in the scalp, it is important not to irritate the scalp further with harsh products. Instead, choose the right natural and moisturising products that match your hair type and needs. The more you dry out the scalp to get rid of the grease, the more sebum and oils your scalp will produce to correct the imbalance, so focus on moisture level.
We recommend Shampoo Menthol no. 10, which provides moisture and cleanses the hair with a cooling effect from menthol, while stimulating blood circulation. Wash your hair twice with shampoo and finish with Conditioner Menthol no. 11.
For extra care and grease control, we recommend Oil Treatment Sweet Mint no. 96. Apply the oil in dry hair to hair and scalp, and let it sit for at least 2 hours. Add Shampoo no. 10 to the hair before going into the shower, and then wash the hair twice. Finish with Conditioner no. 11 in the hair and scalp and let it work for a minimum of 2 minutes. Use the cleansing cider Hair & Scalp Rinse no. 87 once a week after shampoo and before conditioner (leave in for 3-5 minutes).
6. Rebuild Dry, Damaged & Overprocessed Hair
Dry hair needs moisture to become healthy and beautiful. For this, we recommend the Cactus series, Sweet Sense series or Shampoo Rhassoul no. 16. The latter is a clay shampoo with conditioner effect that provides plenty of care for dry hair and split ends and leaves the hair silky soft.
Always finish your hair wash with conditioner. Use can also your conditioner as a leave-in conditioner in towel-dry hair for extra care. We recommend that you give your hair a protein treatment 1-2 times a month to strengthen and add moisture.
Do you have chemically treated hair? Chemical hair colours, bleach and perm treatments are particularly harsh on the hair because they break down the proteins in the hair shaft and leave it damaged and dull.
The best thing to do for overprocessed hair is to give your hair a repairing protein treatment with lots of moisture like Treatment no. 03, preferably mixed with one of our four Oil Treatments. Repeat the treatment approximately every three weeks. Wash your hair with your favorite ZENZ Organic shampoo and apply the protein treatment in towel-dry hair. Let the product sit for about 30 minutes and wash it out. Always finish with a nourishing conditioner, for example Conditioner Sweet Sense no. 05.
7. Are You Suffering From Hair Loss?
If you start losing your hair due to stress or an irritated scalp, we recommend our Shampoo Deep Wood no. 07 and Conditioner no. 08. The Deep Wood series gently cleanse the scalp, stimulate the hair follicles and strengthen hair growth. Use your Deep Wood products for stress-related hair loss, thinning hair and sensitive scalp with dandruff, eczema or itching. With the Deep Wood series, you get a warm scent of wood, patchouli and myrrh.
