Ecocert COSMOS Organic is a globally recognized label for certified organic beauty products. COSMOS is a standard for organic and natural cosmetics. Ecocert is one of the four founding certification bodies behind this standard and is accredited to certify cosmetic products. COSMOS Organic is the highest level of certification within the COSMOS standard, and many ZENZ Organic Products carry this label.
To obtain the Ecocert COSMOS Organic label, 95% of the product’s plant-based ingredients must be organic, and at least 20% of all ingredients must be organic (10% for rinse-off products).
COSMOS (COSMetic Organic Standard) is a European standard for organically certified cosmetics, launched in 2011 and used in more than 70 countries. Behind COSMOS are five organic labeling organizations that have come together to create one unified organic label to help consumers in their search for certified organic cosmetics:
- BDIH (Germany)
- ICEA (Italy)
- Cosmebio (France)
- Soil Association (United Kingdom)
- Ecocert Greenlife SAS (France)
Ecocert is an inspection and certification body. It was established in France in 1991, specializes in the certification of organic agricultural products, and was the first certification body to develop standards for "natural and organic cosmetics" in 2003. Ecocert is responsible for managing Ecocert COSMOS, which certifies both organic cosmetics (COSMOS ORGANIC) and natural cosmetics (COSMOS NATURAL).

Our products contain a higher proportion of certified organic ingredients than required by Ecocert COSMOS Organic. For example, Conditioner Pure no. 02 contains 99% ingredients of natural origin and 87% certified organic ingredients.
When specific ingredients have different criteria under the Nordic Swan Ecolabel and Ecocert COSMOS Organic, ZENZ follows the Nordic Swan’s criteria, as the Nordic Swan places greater emphasis on health and is a governmental institution.
